Joseph Amodea was born in New York City. His love of photography began at the age of nine when he had his own photo shop in his basement where he developed and printed photos for his family and friends. The profits from this endeavor were reinvested in newer and better equipment. At the age of thirteen, while he was still in high school, he got a job as a photographer taking photos at conventions, weddings, etc. He also ran a photo shop in the military.

Joseph studied at New York University for his Bachelor of Arts degree and Newark State College for an Advanced Degree in Industrial Arts. He taught IA in a New York City High School for eleven years.

Joseph and his wife began their own business, Heritage Art Galleries, ltd. in New York City in 1973. It provided a showcase for Joseph's photographs and his wife Marilyn's paintings. Many of the clients became collectors of their art. Over the years he won various awards for his photography, which can be found in many private collections.

By 1980, Heritage had added a manufacturing operation producing point of purchase advertising for large corporations and by 1989 it was necessary to relocate to a 50,000 square foot plant they had built in the Pocono Mountains of Pennsylvania. The manufacturing business employed over fifty people. The business was sold in the year 2000 which enabled Joseph to devote himself full time to his love of photography. He and his wife have traveled extensively and Joseph has been fortunate to visit many beautiful and historic places in the world that have inspired his photography.

Although technology has changed photography, the new technology is nowhere near as important as the photographers EYE, which will always be what determines the quality of the photo.
